John Phillips

John Phillips is a distinguished barrister with a reputation for excellence, serving a broad spectrum of clients across the country. Admitted to the Law Societies of Alberta (1990), Ontario (2002), and Nunavut, he is highly sought after for his expertise. John regularly represents clients in various courts, including Provincial Superior Courts, Federal Court, and before Provincial Securities Regulators. His extensive experience spans corporate and commercial litigation, class actions, administrative law, criminal law, professional liability, insurance litigation, labour and employment law, and private international law in the United Arab Emirates.

For John, legal work is about understanding the cultural and emotional background of the people involved in a dispute, not only translating words and phrases, and about giving personal legal services in a multilingual and multicultural environment.

To take on new professional challenges, John is a founding partner of an international organisation of lawyers set up to handle complex legal issues. He sits on its board and, in 2023, was appointed Managing Partner of WILL.
